"OMG SHAN YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'VE SLIMMED DOWN!!!"
This is what I've gotten from comments/ FB/ WA/ Text after posting this instagram photo today.
I'm sorry to disappoint you guys, I haven't lost a single pound.
There are some friends who see me in real life say the same thing, maybe it's just to be nice, maybe they haven't seen me for really long, maybe it's my dressing, maybe it's really what they think.
Let me explain to you how it works.
1. My hair covers a quarter of my face. Many people cut bangs/ side bangs to achieve the illusion of smaller face. Especially for people with round faces, like me, hair definitely helps in creating a smaller-face look.
2. The colour of my cardigan matches the background - white. Which is why it seems like the area of my body is just the peach dress part. If you look carefully, my hideous arms are hidden beneath my white cardigan which blends with the white wall. Charmeleon in da house yo.
3. Backpack can be a good form of accessory when taking photos, 'cause you can just pull by the straps, and conveniently place your hands on your waist, pushing them inwards to create an(other) illusion of smaller waist.
4. Adjusting the brightness of the photo makes a huge difference to the 'feel' of it. And the advantage of making use of brightness - seems like my rhino calves are blended into the wall again. Charmeleon in da house yo.
5. Tip-toe/ pose is extremely important to me. My height is below 160cm (as you can tell - or not?). So whenever I'm not wearing heels, which is most of the time, I tip-toe in my pictures. It's the same effect as wearing heels. And this is the way I 'cross' my legs to hide parts of my rhino calves. Tried, tested, proven to make a huge difference.
6/ 7. Angle. Or should I credit the photographer (Lok)? You need someone who really loves you to take your photos for you, because they have to spend 10 minutes on the same spot, taking photos for you and saying, "eh I think this one good, can liao la". And you'd be like, "oh... fat leh, one more, last one, I promise!". All the photos are by trial & error. Never once, it's one-shot-good-take. But hey! Lok is well-trained by me to take good-angled photos already please! Mummy still learning in progress, lol.
8. Editing. TBH, I know how to use photoshop, but nah, not really pro. In fact, the features I need for photoshop are all doable in apps! Meitu, Snapseed, VSCO Cam, etc. My favourite is to pull myself taller a bit, lol.
Here's a photo comparison side-by-side for you.
My photos are 90% edited with apps, be it filter, lighting, beauty.
But I try not to overdo it (well, it's subjective), in case people see me and say, "eh, you look so different from your photos leh!", which I've already gotten a lot. It's sad, but oh wells.
Look guys, I'm not born with skinny genes, nor am I the hardcore gymmer/whatever it takes to slim down. I've tried and failed so many times 'cause I can't resist food. And I don't waste food. Lok always scolds me about it, like why force my stomach when I can't finish. But, I just don't like wasting food. I feel oversized most of the time with most of my friends, everyday.
Other than putting on make-up and to dress-up (sometimes) make me feel better.
But at the end of the day, I know it's not about piling the powders on your face (been to school with naked face, sometimes now, too lazy), confidence comes from within. Yah yah yah, but everyone still wants to look pretty right. So at least make me feel happier in my virtual world, I'll do something about my real life soon okay. (I'm already prepared for haters to call me pretentious/ fake/ whatever after reading this, but at least I admit okay, think about how many people out there doing this, like a norm, maybe you're pretty/ beautiful/ slim/ skinny enough aesthetically, then be the same on the outside and empathise with people like us okay)!
Note: There are still photos in my blog that are not edited at all, 'cause they are taken by others. I shall emphasise on, ANGLES again, sometimes good people take good photos of me that don't need editing, lol. But when you see my in real life, my fat puffy piggy face will be right at your face, and there people go... "eh, you look so different from your photos leh!" ok la, ok la. Thanks for telling me.
Till then, XX's photo apps (which I don't use so many la) for sharing~
